180º South. Woodshed Films. 2010.

In 1968 Yvon Chouinard and Doug Thompkins left california for a 5000 mile journey to surf untouched coastal chile and to climb the then unclimbed peaks in Patagonia. An adventure the two still claim as the ‘trip of a lifetime’ they shot on a 16mm bolex camera.

Climber and surfer Jeff Johnson finds Yvon’s films and wants to do the same for himself. And it begins with sailing to South America from CA.

With beautiful footage, honest and thoughtful narration by Jeff, a strong conservational message, music from Ugly Casanova (Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse) and drawings and animation from Geoff McFetridge, This is an incredibly inspiring and moving film to have stumbled upon.

Consider communing with nature, living simply and spending time doing something that has meaning to you personally with people you care deeply for. I know I will.
