She’ll Cut Up Your Face

August 25, 2010 | In Art, Inspiration

She approaches people to ask, “Am I pretty?” If you say yes, she’ll kill you, and if you say no, she’ll take off her mask and show you her horrific Glasgow smile, the result of a cosmetic surgery procedure gone terribly wrong. She asks again, “Am I pretty?” If you say yes, she’ll cut up your face; if you say no, she’ll follow you home and THEN cut up your face, and if you say, “You look normal,” she’ll grow confused and wander away.

Hellen Jo draws some pretty amazing Asian Ghosts. Love me some gore plz.

McBess Interview

August 17, 2010 | In Art, Friends, Inspiration, Video

I’m still working at The Mill as a director, so there’s an overlap because we’re trying to use my style for commercials but the result is usually pretty far from what I do, because clients are a bit worried about having too many tits in their images.

Interesting interview with McBess over at my homies’ blog Because We Like To.

So I Accidentally Made It A Book

June 14, 2010 | In Art, Friends, Mixtape, Output, Thoughts, Zine

I’m putting the finishing touches today on the long-delayed Sad Jams / Gone Songs zine I started about one year ago (or probably a bit more actually) and I’ve realized that when you ask 10 of your friends to make art and contribute songs what you wind up with is a 52 page book. Whoops.

I’ll probably have to be more creative with the binding than a simple staple. Maybe two small books packaged together?

It will be out soon surely. I promise you and I’m SERIOUS this time. haha.

Details forthcoming.

Less Talk More Rock

SuperBrothers wrote a really nice article recently on the creative process and figuring out ways to leap frog the typical ‘discussion’ phase in most peoples creative process that waters down the fun of your ideas. Just skip that part. Go straight from inspiration to the MAKE STUFF part.

I’m definitely guilty of overcalculating my projects and things.

And this is a fun little doc on Pixel Art.

Evan Hecox – Recent Works

May 24, 2010 | In Art, Inspiration

So Evan Hecox has been a hugely inspiring artist for me since before I knew his name when he was doing graphics for Chocolate Skateboards. He’s gone from doing work there to being quite a successful fine artist and continues to create body after body of interesting and subtley maturing work.

The last two shows (I believe) he put out were one here in LA at Kinsey Desforges in 2008 all about photos he took on a trip to Mexico DF and another trip he took to Vietnam whose show opened in NY last year I believe.

And he’s successful enough that bothering with updating his portfolio website surely comes in last to his family and just making art (as it should be I’d say). But with his recent collaboration with incase I mentioned a second ago, THEY made him a nice little showcase with reasonably sized images of recent work and even some really nice downloads of work used for the collab.

For All My Droogs

A friend of mine Thomas over here at Imaginary Forces made a poster based on Alex from Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange and apparently Malcolm McDowell likes it. I might just have to purchase one.
