Slowdance

August 15, 2011 | In Music, Music Video

Matthew Dear – “Slowdance” by Charles Bergquist from Ghostly International on Vimeo

“The lyrics drove the photography and the sound drove the texture and slices,” Bergquist says. “For most of the edit and post-production work, I let the track dictate the visuals.”

A beautiful video for this Matthew Dear song expertly combining these organic fluid layers, city-scape imagery and footage of the actress. One thing I might say that I dislike about this video, and it seems to be a trend that I dislike in music videos in general is the lack of a clear narrative. It’s pretty yes, but I’m unclear what is happening or what it’s saying. Maybe nothing needs to happen, but in videos where nothing does, it feels like a wasted opportunity.

Maybe I’ll feel differently after a couple more viewings. Maybe I dont understand the lyrical content enough to get whats happening.

But overall I think this video is lovely and very well done, despite my criticism.
